如果你不知道TA是什么：TA指助教（Teaching Assistant），又翻译成“帮凶”或者“侩子手” 🙂
作为理论物理的研究生，TA的工作是不可避免的，一是因为理论物理不像实验物理有那么多funding，二是一般来说人们认为理论物理的学生对物理的“感觉”是比较好的，做TA更有帮助一些（我怀疑这点）。
并不是所有的时候系里都有足够的TA职位给学生做，所以有的时候申请是很激烈的，比如UT Austin物理系这个学期有大概10个人拿不到TA的职位，这些人有的不得不寻找一个实验的RA。在考虑给学生分配TA的职位时，系里一般会考虑到下面几个因素：

好书推荐：《Geometry, Topology and Physics》

《Geometry, Topology and Physics》（让我在后文中简称它为GTP），作者Mikio Nakahara。这本书是我遇到的String Theory最好的入门数学书。GTP@Amazon
“最好”这个词似乎是危险的，因为“没有最好，只有更好”，但我目前没有发现关于弦论的数学准备的更好的教材，如果你有更好的书，请告诉我；另外，弦论对数学的要求也许是没有穷尽的，所以也不可能有一本书在所有领域和所有深度上涵盖数学基础，但是我相信当你读完GTP后，你可以听懂String Theory I里面关于数学那部分（也就意味着你可以听懂几乎所有内容 🙂 )；这本书并不是仅仅为弦论准备的，你可以从中选取需要的章节，不过我很难相信当你读完其中两三章后会禁得住不把所有的章节读完 🙂
