还没在格致介绍过 SAGE。

SAGE 是一个开源数学软件，目标是成为 Magma, Maple, Mathematica, and Matlab 的免费开源替代品。

SAGE 可用来来研究许多数学问题，including algebra, calculus, elementary to very advanced number theory, cryptography, numerical computation, commutative algebra, group theory, combinatorics, graph theory, and exact linear algebra。包含到 Magma, Maple, Mathematica, MATLAB, and MuPAD, Axiom, GAP, GP/PARI, Macaulay2, Maxima, Octave, and Singular 的接口。使用 Python 来编程，而不是又一套专门的语言。而且可在浏览器中使用。

有试过 SAGE 的朋友请来谈谈经验。

Octave很不错

Octave很不错和MatLab基本兼容安装一个octave-forge以后就有很多附加功能了。缺点是没有MatLab丰富的图形界面所以可能不招惹人喜欢。不过我用Emacs的，octave mode还凑和。最近有想法想模仿Emacs的GDB模式开发一个emacs-octave多窗口模仿MatLab的ELisp 啃书中。。。

I do not recommend SAGE

I do not recommend SAGE because it is too complicate.
It uses maxima as a core and python is just an interface.
The size of SAGE is too big and for windows user. you have to use vmware to simulate Linux.

R is a very different project from SAGE(it's for statistics, like S)! The goal of octave is to be an free system like Matlab, the same project is Scilab(but i prefer octave because it's small, Scilab is too big).

About Maximal, I try to learn it many times, but it's too difficult to understand for me(I'm not in Symble Computational major).

If you know Python very well like me, I think sympy is the best choose.
I think sympy is an clean and good enough as a friendly and extensible Computer Algebra System. But the document is not complete since it is a developing system. Fortunately, the commune is friendly.

btw: I'm sorry for my poor English, I just in the library, no chinese inputer~~~
